I’m Nicola Holmes, the founder and sole consultant at Every Step Care Consultancy. My journey in social care began in 2009, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding path filled with challenges, learning, and growth.
A Moment of Inspiration
My passion for this field started unexpectedly, back when I worked in a local café in Blackpool. One young man, accompanied by his support worker, would visit regularly. Over time, I had the privilege of helping him build the confidence and skills to order, pay for, and collect his drink independently. The pride I felt when he accomplished it on his own inspired me to pursue a career in social care.
Professional Journey
I started as a carer in domiciliary care, then transitioned to supported living, eventually becoming a regional manager overseeing multiple sites. Later, I became an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) and worked as a registered manager with a strong track record in turnaround management. My work as a consultant enables me to share my knowledge and coach care staff and managers to improve the quality of care they provide.
Collaborative Approach
At Every Step Care Consultancy, I bring my expertise to support services in overcoming challenges such as funding issues, safeguarding concerns, and quality assurance. While I operate independently, I have a trusted network of contractors with specialised skills who assist in areas like audits and care planning when needed. This allows me to provide comprehensive and tailored support to every service I work with.
